Charlize Theron is negotiating to star with Tom Cruise in “The Tourist,” the remake of French thriller “Anthony Zimmer” to be directed by Bharat Nalluri. Theron would play an Interpol agent who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.
Julian Fellowes wrote the script for the film. The original starred Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal and was written and directed by Jerome Salle.
Production is expected to begin by March, says Variety. The script is currently getting a polish by Christopher McQuarrie.
Spyglass principals Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Canal Plus.
Theron was most recently seen alongside Will Smith in “Hancock,” and she will be seen shortly starring in “The Burning Plain” and alongside Viggo Mortensen in John Hillcoat’s “The Road.”
