Bacon to exec produce Showtime's 'The Booths' (VAR)

By Nancy Tartaglione-Vialatte

Kevin Bacon is planning to executive produce a Showtime series based on Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth. “The Booths” will focus on the dysfunctional relationship of Booth and his brothers, Edwin and Junius Brutus Jr., in the years prior to the famed night in the Ford Theatre, says Variety.

No writer is yet attached and development is still in the early stages.

Showtime is no stranger to period drama with "The Tudors" among its offerings.

John Wilkes Booth was the son of British Shakespearean actor Junius Brutus Booth and actress Mary Ann Holmes. He eventually became a rabid defender of the South and clashed with his brother Edwin.

Bacon's past non-acting projects include directing and producing the feature "Loverboy," as well as directing the Showtime telepic "Losing Chase" and episodes of TNT's "The Closer" which stars his wife Kyra Sedgwick.
